Lets start with some good news shall we? We are happy to announce that we are in the regional finals of UK Live and Unsigned! We played a whole 1 Min 30 sec’s of “Do It Again” before being told to stop and put through into the next round…… we love a bit of in and out. We now go on to play a full original song blended into an unexpected cover of our choice. Suggestions most welcome but something out of our comfort zone, that we would never usually play. There are tickets available from us (Contact MB on Facebook). its being held at the Beck Theatre in Hayes on March 11th and your support would be much appreciated.

Fiachra :  “After a top gig at the Camden Barfly on Friday (cheers to Chris McCormack for putting us on) it was up North and onwards  we were on the road again to one of our favourite cities, Manchester. This time in a slightly more formal capacity, playing at the Manchester Conference Centre for a Huge Morrison’s event. We arrived on the Saturday having crawled up the M6 in heavy snow – but weren’t playing until the Sunday, so of course a night out ensued… be rude not to? Culminating in bad dancing, German girls and me waking up at 7am, wrapped in a duvet in the hotel corridor. Well at least I’m consistent , last time we were in a hotel in Manchester, woke up with the lift doors opening and closing on my head. Anyway the show went well regardless and the clients were very pleased. All the crew, production managers from Fresh and sound engineers were fantastic and treated us really well.
All in all a top weekend!”

Sitting in the Bath trying to wash away the weekend...?

Last and by no means least, we have to give a big thank you and shout out to ‘Bandwagon’! A fantastic company with great people that really care about real bands and real music, striving to help bands and promoters by making gigging, booking and referencing a lot easier. We have also been lucky enough to be the flag ship band on their home page. So thank you again ‘BW’, Looking forward to a productive year working together.

We have also, of course been tapping away at some new material, so will keep you posted with all developments.

Last week we made the journey down to Essex to support the Moons at The Square in Harlow. We’ve played there before and like the venue and played with The Moons before as well. Really good band and all top boys so it was good to see em again fresh off supporting Beady Eye on tour in Europe. We always do alright in Essex and seem to have built up a really good loyal fan base that come to see us wherever we ‘re playing, even as far as Scotland and Ireland! Really nice feeling to have support like that and keeps us ticking over. Bit of drama at the start when literally on the last chord Aaron’s amp stopped working. Good job we realized in time and figured out he’d blown a fuse, (we never go anywhere without our trusty electrician Mr Hollebon) Bollocks!! Anyway we begged, stole and burrowed from another band Small talk who were great so a big thanks to them. The gig was solid and we went down well again.

Great to see the friendly faces on their home turf and looking forward to seeing their lovely mugs again at The Bull in Colchester Essex on December 9th for our last Essex gig of the year! Ho ho ho!

Next Gigs :

Thursday 24th November @ The Garage, Islington (Supporting Little Barrie)

Friday 25th November @ Bush Hall, Shepherds Bush (Headlining for ‘Operation Wellfound’ – Charity Night)

Manchestor in the area!! There’s only one stop! There’s only one stop!…..Yeah, a well long stop cos we got stuck in a massive traffic jam! Five and half hours it took us to get there….kin ell!!  We did a double header at at moho live in Manchester supporting Wheres Strutter? and it was great to see The Soviets again, all top boys! And we saw the lovely Alice Elliot, what a star you are!! and event organiser of the future, you rock and thanks for all ya help chickaboo!
We kicked off playing to the the underager’s (Cozi was really looking forward to this one) and i think they liked it? Hard to tell when you’re used to playing to pissed up rowdy folk. They soberly just took it in and clapped politely. I think they’re a good idea those underage gigs, wish there were more when i were a lad!

Second gig went well, good crowd in and we were tight as ever….well Jacobs mum liked it so… Gave a shout out to The Stone Roses reforming….literally cannot wait for Heaton Park!!
Of course, being in Manchester i did get a bit over excited and consume vast quantities of booze in a small period of time after the gig. Ended up at an after party at Gulliver’s but unfortunately that’s as far as the old memory goes. Apparently me Cozi and John went on to a late night haunt called The Northern and chatted up Yoda, Chewy and an Stormtrooper. Bobafet was in the pub next door, think he’d had a row with the Stormtrooper about whose helmet was better. Silly really, why cant they all just get along?

Got back to the hotel where i re-enacted one of my previous Manc outings when i fell asleep in the door of the lift with it just opening and closing on my head. (video soon to be released onto youtube and you’ve been framed) then me and our kid played stunt man in our room whilst finishing off our cleverly pre bought booze (old pros). Shoulda gone to bed then but oh no, of course we thought it a good idea to have a wander into Manchester and catch the pubs opening! Went down like a fart in a spacesuit cos everyone ended up waiting 45mins for me and Cozi to get to the motor….and I’m pretty sure Richard and Lucy hate me now. Big sorry to Richard and Lucy and the boyz….had a bloody good time though! Woke up in London with a swastika on my neck. Mum says i should stop hanging around with that crowd. Bad values or sumink she reckons, or just Marner on the road. Next stop The Square in Harlow with The Moons, bring it on.

It’s been a while since we posted on this – things have just calmed down after a rather busy summer! Highlights included playing the Main Stage at Frequency Festival in Austria with the likes of The Kills, Elbow and the mighty Kasabian…

Other festivals highlights included Solfest in Cumbria, and playing the Salty Dog Stage (an old pirate ship wreck in the middle of the woods!) at the Electric Picnic in Ireland….

Fiachra : “It’s been a relatively quiet week this week in camp Marner. I’ve been slowly sorting out my home studio in someone Else’s home? A special thanks to Richard and Lucy Hollebon (Jacobs folks) for donating their beloved daughter Anna’s old room as our new writing/recording hub. Let’s hope she doesn’t have a change of heart and want to move back too soon….its three floors up! Anyway, on Tuesday evening we played the prestigious Jazz Cafe in Camden supporting Toploader. A cool venue, rich in history that may have felt some what abused after we’d finished our half an hour set. It was strange in that we played in a line at the front of the stage due to space issues and i did feel a tad guilty looking up at the civilised people who had booked a dinner table on the balcony as i screamed at them but I’m sure their ears became accustomed to it. A far cry from a kiss and a cuddle to ‘Dancing In The Moonlight.’ “

Gigs coming up – Moho Live in Manchester 28th Oct & The Square in Harlow 4th Nov… also plans for the album are storming ahead – don’t want to say too much but we should have more to say on that in the next week or two so watch this space…

Marner Brown

Marner Brown

People, here we are. The journey has sometimes been arduous, sometimes raucous, a little bit weird, actually, very weird, but a truly rich journey featuring lead characters who’ve stood by each other, picked each other up when down, kept on keepin’ on but maintained a fierce belief in their music throughout and playing that live to an audience.

One constant that has kept us going has been fans, family and friends. Big time!

We’re so excited about the album that’s waiting to be finished and hungry for people to hear it. This is where you come in, to help us make this happen. To finish the album and for you to be forever a part of the Marner Brown story…

We’ve found a producer, a place of work and are hitting the studio in a month once the remaining festivals have been Marner’d. Not sure if you’ve heard about Pledge Music but it’s a way of allowing artists and fans to really connect with each other and write the story. Instead of relying on a label to make our record we can go directly to you for support and you will be a part of the entire process.

We’ve set up a series of items – ‘pledges’ – that you can bid for (as many as you like), in doing this you’re not only buying things we think you’ll love and also find amusing, you’re also directly contributing to the album being made. We’ve come up with most of the pledges ourselves following some rather theatrical Marner brain storming.

People who pledge will be investing directly in a part of the album, so to make sure you know what you’ve paid for we’ll post ‘pledgers-only’ updates and videos on our Pledge page as the record takes shape, as well as other things we think you’ll like and find fun or interesting. We’ll include behind the scenes footage, short stories, capers, blogs, articles, photos and video clips and you can then let us know what you think and even post back.

We know that more than a few people will illegally download our record, possibly before it’s released and we can’t stress enough how negative this would be for us, but we will urge you, if you don’t want to buy from a shop, then please buy directly from us. We also understand that the CD won’t be everyone’s chosen format these days so we’re not just offering the CD. There will be stuff that goes along with it. Your name in the credits, things that make the album more special than it would be if it was picked up on files or just streamed online. You’ll also know that every penny is going to enable us to continue making music. And we’ve got lots of it!

We can then all see the journey completed and the sacrifices we’ve all endured bear fruit. Not to mention the Pledgers only party upon completion of the album, with the album played in full!

Pledge has a built in charitable function as well which means that part of everything we do will help a charity we’re supporting. Our chosen charity is The Princess Alice Hospice.

Once we’re ready to launch with Pledge we’ll be sending you another email so keep your eyes on your inboxes. In the meantime send this on to your friends, families, their friends, friends of friends, hell pass it on to strangers and get them signed up to our mailing list! There is a free previously unavailable track download for everyone who signs up on our Musicglue page so go on, fill your boots!

We’ve moved the blog over here from myspace – it seems a bit lonely over there these days!

We’ve just had a cracking weekend, Friday at the Lexington in Islington (then a bit of a Fortress Session!) and Saturday headlining the Brightlingsea Music Festival – top day organised by some truly great people.

Next stop on the Summer Tour – Frequency Festival in Austria – playing the Weekender Stage on Friday 19th August.

Fill you in on more soon – for now here is a video from the recent Halfmoon gig – Cheers to Rob Newberry for this one…
